Food should be enjoyed however you want to. We have thought long and hard about what our residents like to eat and how they like meals to be served. We found that food and the social aspect surrounding it is something that most people hold dear; it evokes memories of different eras in one’s life, various people, and celebration. We think that in itself is something worth savouring.
We have created lovely welcoming spaces within Cumnor Hill House for meals and snacks - variety is the order of the day. There is the main bar and bistro, thoughtfully divided up into areas where people can enjoy a meal together, and places where couples, individuals and small groups can easily congregate to chat and relax over coffee and biscuits.
The jewel in the crown for the foodies among you will be the fine dining room. Our residents are welcome to invite their families into the home for dinner, a special birthday, or just because they feel like it.
That's what sets this care home apart from the others – attention to the real desires of the individual, not just words. When we say that we want our residents to treat it as their home, we mean it. Having space to invite your friends round in turn makes visiting hours longer, more relaxed, more enjoyable. Ask to see our fine dining and bistro menus.
Who doesn't love a great night out? Or a grand night in. At Cumnor Hill House you will never be left wondering what to do. From singers & performers to roulette tables and wine tastings – our events program is only limited by our combined imagination. There are activities for everyone, all week, whether you love painting, or reminiscing, or just walking around the gardens admiring the planting, there will always be some sort of structured activity for you to join in as frequently as you wish. We also have a partnership with the local cricket club, so if watching a spot of leather on willow is your thing, our residents are always welcome in the pavilion.
The specific nature and timing of activities offered are decided by our residents and we will always do our best to facilitate their choice. Below are some examples of the type of activities favoured by our residents:
One look around Cumnor Hill House and you will soon see the care and attention which has been employed in furnishing the home. We have followed a painstaking design process bringing in all sorts of different ideas, to achieve a look that is uniquely Cumnor Hill House. The pictures on the walls, the carpets and the curtains and the wallpapers are all chosen to create different moods, to relax and entertain, to blend away and to stand out. The main aim is to make the place feel like home. Something - we think you’ll agree - special.
Non-intrusive therapy that involves working with the feet and lower legs to restore different areas of the body. A wonderfully relaxing treatment for residents who have limited mobility, or those who simply feel their bodies need an energy boost.
An ancient treatment, this gentle massage to the upper back, shoulders, neck, head and face has numerous health benefits including increased circulation and muscle tone, and improved immunity.
A traditional Japanese treatment that reduces stress, aids relaxation, and promotes healing. It’s a gentle treatment that is carried out by Alison, our Reiki Master.
Whether you’re after a new style, a quick refresh and tidy, or a wash and blow dry in advance of an outing or social event, our stylists are available at all times.
Perfect nails whenever you feel like a pick-me-up.
Our outdoor areas are all landscaped and will become a vibrant display of colour in the spring and summer. If you fancy adding to the beauty then carry on! It's your own garden so why not join our gardening club and help shape the look for everyone to enjoy? When the weather is right, outdoor dining and entertainment is top of the list of activities. We have also added a sun terrace to our first floor so that you can quickly grab every ray of sun, no matter how small!
We’re delighted to announce that the Cumnor Hill House Gym is now open for action, and it’s one of just a handful of care homes in the country with an in-house gym. The only difference is that here at Cumnor Hill House, we’re unique as our gym is open to the public – and it’s completely free of charge!
Local residents are invited to come along and use our specialist equipment at their leisure; there’s no membership required, although we do ask for each visitor to participate in a short fitness assessment before getting started to ensure their safety.
At Cumnor Hill house, we describe ourselves as being an all-inclusive care home, and our brand-new, state-of-the-art, specialist gym is part and parcel of that too. This fantastic facility opened on 1st June 2018 and has been specially-designed to suit those aged 65 and over, featuring low-impact equipment that poses a much lower risk of injury than standard gym apparatus. With a rowing machine, two upward weight machines and a walking machine, our residents have all the equipment they need to stay fit and healthy in our home. And better yet, if anyone would prefer to exercise in private, the walking machine is collapsible so can be moved into residents’ bedrooms if required.
Well, research shows that if you are fitter and more energetic in your twilight years, you are less likely to suffer from a fall, and an active lifestyle also staves off dementia and Alzheimer’s – we want the very best for our residents here at Cumnor Hill House and investing in this facility is just one of the many ways we have shown this since we opened in 2016. Come and see the Cumnor Hill House Gym in action – and don’t forget to bring your sports kit! We hope to see you very soon.
